My First Giveaway

Sew Mama Sew is hosting a giveaway day this week, and I'm joining in with my first giveaway ever! Last spring when I stumbled on the last giveaway party, it changed my blogging life... Even though I didn't win anything, I found several new blogs to follow, and that in turn led to so much inspiration for new quilting projects that I became more of a quilt blog where before I was focusing mainly on knitting and book reviews.  So by all means, go join in the fun.  There are several categories of giveaways and hundreds of participants.
I've been quilting fairly seriously for 20 years, and I have a lot of fabric, but it's mostly in small quantities.  I   So I decided to cut up a bunch of 5" charm squares from some of my novelty fabrics.  Most of them have been in my stash or scrap bins for awhile and would be appropriate for making a nice crib or play quilt for a favorite child.  I have great memories of the projects I made for my own kids while cutting them up! There are 25 charm squares with a little of everything, and I'll keep cutting until I have at least 50 in the stack for you.  There is also a book, Charm Quilts with Style, and I'll throw in a handful of vintage buttons and a lavender sachet.  The winner will be chosen randomly from comments left on this post.  Let me know a little about the child you'd like to make something for: boy or girl, friend or relation, personality, cute stories, whatever!
I'll have a few more packets of charm squares to give away, too.  I'll include some quilting magazines instead of the book and pick those winners based on my own favorite comments.  So there will be at least 3 prizes going out.  I'm looking forward to meeting some new friends!

I'll ship internationally.  Giveaway will stay open until Friday, Dec. 16 at 5:00 p.m.  Make sure I can reach you by email, and I will also be editing this post to reflect the winners.  Now go have fun!

*************************************************************************

Updated to add winners' names:

Congratulations Paskiaq, the RNG picked you!

And in addition, I've contacted pianomama and Cricket and Kristy because I have a few more charm packs to send their way!  Be sure to send me your snail-mail addy so I can post these to you next week.

I would like to make something for my 7 yr old son. He likes bright colors, which are fun to work with.

My 6 y/o daughter has been nagging me for some new doll quilts and she would LOVE these bright fabrics! (although, my 13 y/o will fight her for the Mighty Mouse square! That's her favorite character and her softball nickname!)

Thanks for the fun giveaway!

Every year we have a extended family reunion. We camp, electricty is limited to a generator for lights. Thursays we have a family work project to improve or just clean up the property we own. There are a large number of young kids and some years the projects aren't safe or easy for them so I started having activities for them under the pavilion, freeing up some of their parents and involving others who felt they were getting too old be to useful. I wanted to have the do something meaningful too. 3 years ago I found some iron on transfers, made quilt squares and brought them to reunion for the kids to color. They used permanent markers or crayons, depending on their age. Then I took the squares home and made quilts which were donated. It has been an incredible experience and has story after story of where and who the quilts have touched. I would use any fabric to make strips to frame the squares. They turn out amazing, so colorful and cheerful. More than you wanted to know, but I'm always on the lookout for fun kids fabric. Thanks.

very fun fabrics! I'm also new to blogging - less than a year.
I am excited to start my first ever quilt in the new year - for my daughter when she moves to her "big girl bed" this spring/summer. they grow up so quickly!
A craft i want to learn - crochet - but I doubt I'll ever have the patience for that.

I clicked over because I saw that Mighty Mouse fabric and I kind of love Mighty Mouse :) I used to have a green shirt with him on it that I wore all the time :) It would be great as part of an I Spy quilt for my daughter.

Anyhow, thanks for the giveaway and I like your blog layout.

I would make an I-spy quilt for my daughters. It would come in handy when we are out, or when I'm volunteering. My older daughter would love to teach my little one how to find things.

what fun! i love charm squares, and i am just about to make a color wheel / warm-cool quilt - i would love these!!

Those look like great fabrics to make an i spy quilt for my son (he's 10 months old right now). His latest antic is jumping on his bed (his crib). One night I was trying to settle him down and he was so hyper, he was pulling himself up, holding on to the side and jumping, then sitting down and clapping, then repeating the whole thing! It was very hard to stay serious!

Kathy, I totally agree that this Giveaway Day is a great opportunity to find new blogs, even without winning anything. I have 3 little kids in my family right now - three adorable nieces, all girls! One will get a quilt I made a couple months ago for Christmas. I'd use these fabrics to make another one :) I am a newbie at quilting, but I do feel that I am already in love. A one that will last for years :)

I have 5 children, and have been planning an "eye-spy" type quilt for them for months as my first attempt at quilting. These fun squares would be a perfect addition to my growing stack! Thanks for the chance!

I don't know many young children, but I would probably make something for my cousin's daughter who is just about to get a baby sister. I think baby will be getting all the presents, but 3 year old big sister deserves something too! My favourite story about her is her tendency to slip into different languages, as her parents have moved a lot in her young life. Once she slipped into Russian and my aunt asked her what she was saying in Russian. Miss 3 replied very idignantly "No Russian Nana, ewww, English!"

Joy said...

I would make something for my son. My daughter adopts most of the crafty things I make, so I'm trying to make a few things especially for him.

I would love to win. I can never have too much fabric and already cut for me is a bonus. I have been organizing my scraps by cutting them into different size blocks. I have been able to use some of them to make quilts and pillows. I still have a ton. Also, I force myself to do this cutting and organizing after every project otherwise my scraps get way out of hand and have to be beaten back into submission.

I have a 6 year old monkey, erm I mean boy and two new babies in the family next year.
I am not a big quilter so I figured that any fabric I win That I won't use I will donate to quilts for japan who are making up sewing kits for the victims of the quake/tsunami - the kits are there to help keep their hands and minds busy and keep depression at bay.

I'm become a mother this year. I have downloaded lots of tutorials and patterns for making a girl dress, quilt and etc. I thought I will have a baby girl, but in the end, it's a boy. It's quite a limitation for boys clothes tutorial and pattern in the Etsy store and blog. I really blank and no idea. Therefore, I stopped sewing for my boy and I'm started sewing for myself. I had sew a bag for myself this Christmas, and I'm planning for a blouse next year.. :)
Thx for the chance to win ^^v

I remember watching Mighty Mouse with my brother when we were small! We loved him despite there being a more popular, British version at the time - Danger Mouse. If I won I'd make a playmat for my brother's first child. they're having a boy and he's due in February. This is my parent's first grandchild and we're all so excited about it! I'm new to quilting and newish to sewing but this little boy is going to be spoilt with homemade stuff!

My birthday is this Saturday, and this would be a wonderful birthday present!

These days I seem to sew almost exclusively for children. I have a very cute and cheeky 16 month old daughter, Amelia, who I confess get's neglected on the home made sewing front due to there being deadlines for gifts for my nephew, niece and close friends kids. Amelia's projects just keep getting postponed so I would love to have some cute novelty prints to make her an Eye Spy quilt play mat. I found out about these for the first time this SMSGD and really loved the idea.
Thanks so much for the chance to win these, I know how precious those little scraps left over from your kids projects are - my mum still has scraps from our cloths hidden away.

I'd love to make a quilt for the child a friend of mine is currently expecting. I obviously don't know anything about this kid yet, but by the time I get the project finished I'm sure the kid will be old enough to appreciate it.

I am making an i-spy quilt for my 16 month old. I love him more than I could have ever thought possible. He is definitely unique. He turns down cookies and candies but eats fruit like there's no tomorrow. He loves music and always bops his little little body along to the beat no matter type of music or where we are. He prefers to blow kisses rather than saying bye. The best is when he's tired and he walks around like he is drunk and giggles at nothing. :)

I've been saving up some quilts to donate to a deprived childrens centre so I would use them for that.

Cricket said...

I would totally use those for an I spy type quilt for my daughters. But the thing is - my 4 year old is sitting next to me and when she saw the picture she *gasped* and said "mommy! That's my diaper!" Sure enough, the cloth diaper I bought special for her to come home from the hospital in (which matched her black velvet overalls and res handknit hat and booties)was made of that skull fabric in the front. I have never seen it in a store or anything, and I know she would love a quilt with a little bit of that in there!

Thanks for offering such a great giveaway. I just love little bits and bobs and scraps. They're my favorite.

I've been wanting to make an I spy quilt or quiet book for my 3 year old son.

What a neat idea for a giveaway... love it! I have been saving fabric for quite a few years and just started quilting this year. I want to make a memory charm quilt for my 21 year old son. Something for him to have to look back on.

These squares would go into my next big project of making quilts for less fortunate children. There are so many names on the Tiny Tim tree this year at the local bank. I think a quilt would be great to pair up with a toy. I hope to have some completed for the 2012 holiday season. :)

I would love to make something special for my little boy Logan. He's a precious 5 year old. For example, yesterday he said to me, "Mommy, do you know what would make you even prettier?" Of course I wanted to know. He then said, "You need another ponytail in your hair." hehehe. I already had two. I guess a third right in the back would be the bes!! :D

Sarcastic Quilter said...

Umm, it's going to sound selfish but these will be used toward a "favorite things/memory quilt" for me and also for each of my siblings, where applicable.

Then, with the other squares, I'll use them for I spy quilts for the young kids in the charity quilts I plan to make next year.

Thank you for the chance to win your giveaway!
